more LPs - for what?

Went back to see Mary Lou on Ransom....boy, that woman could get under my nerves quick...giggly giggly ko ko bop, with her strong, never say nuttin' spouse, no wonder their cousin was gay - plus his mother was his father's cousin...inbreeding will cause you to collect Judy Garland me supposes.

Went back to M2, found that Estorga is going to open there, and therein another tale is born, as my informant, Ana, will be working there at the new biz, after being robbed by the old biz. Quite a bizzy day, indeed.

Udder than dat, what else is gwane on? Naw much.

chinese feast and more

This week, I worked on a few stories for the Beachcomber, including the M2 story about which I got details that showed up nowhere else...now I just hope Jay prints it. He seemed pretty cool about it.

Before I got that story on Tues or Wednesday, I visited this sort of scattered elderly woman on Ransom St., just over the apts. near Ximeno who had several hundred LPs from her nephew who died suddenly awhile back. From the contents, lot of girl singers, I'm thinking...AIDs?

Good stuff within, Hayley Mills, Annette, Donna Loren (on whom I was weak), Monkee's Head and stuff of that nature. About 20 items, 2 45s, the rest LPs, for $8. Does that make me vulnerable for AIDs? A joke, okay, a joke.

The mini-mansion story is getting some good response, mainly calls, tho Liz would like more letters.

There was a very tragic event this past week when a man shot at his wife & killed his four year old son right behind Steve & Barb's house...on Thursday, as they were out shopping for a new cello for Daniel who'd broken his old one.

Just learned that Fri. nite, Barb & Steve went to SteakORama on the shore which had posted my story that includes them on their wall.

What a weekend. I was a little concerned as rain had been predicted for Sat., the day of the big feast in the City Of Industry. Not to be concerned, our drive over the mtns on Colima Rd. was pict-perfect, only when we got to Industry did the traffic get INSANE!!! - blocked from Colima to the freeway...just too many cars!!!

Got to the crowded shopping center on the foot of the 60 & parked. What a feast, good and interesting folks in Bill's inner circle, a grown Eddie, effusive Corrina, friendly Vicky & her infant...and the Shanghai cooking was superb, entre after entree - pork, fish, mushrooms - served on a giant lazy susan and we ate!!!

Great day. Rained on Sunday, as I was at the OC Record Show, where I bought about 30 45s....all in all, a good weekend.

And Sunday p.m., Sylv got a call from Barb, would you like to go to a play and off they went and I went to the gym. Back to writing now.

a weekend here, a weekday there...

On Sunday night, when I usually do my best drinking, comes the time that every man must reach his best blog.

This Friday was great for me at the Beachcomber. Crummy for Cindy who got busted for plagarism...it was all there in Google. I too borrowed, but I attributed...to the Cambodian Times & to Frontline on my Prach Ly story in the same issue, April Fool's one, in which Cindy borrowed about a half dozen paragraphs about sexual harassment and boring ones too. What possessed her? If you're going to plagarize, at least steal some halfway interesting stuff.

Jay is pissed, but not sure who at. Maybe Liz, maybe Cindy, maybe both. Just hope no one gets fired as I'm afraid might happen. Then, what of the Beachcomber? He mentioned the word firing, referring to his changes that were ignored, and a few bad spell check type typos I found, especially in my Traffic Circle story.

Saturday, I visited a guy named Charles Irvine in Lakewood Village to look at records. Didn't seem like much when he called, but when I got there, after a few false starts: wow!!! I almost blew this one off, but Sylvia, thank God, saved the phone number and hit it off with the wife on the phone.

Seems that Mr. Irvine had a table full of mint & great LPs, some Capitol 10" promo box sets I've never in my life seen before. and a great Eddy Arnold pullout RCA 10" LP, againt I've never seen. A wall of 45 books & 78s at the back of the garage, and in the house, an old TV cabinet with two drawers of alphabetized 45s! - all in sleeves, 99 percent country, but a good rockers on Aggie and a few other quasi rockers on Sun & Philips. Nice guy, invested $45 for 26 45s and about 25 LPs...great value. Gave the lead to Petke on Sunday PM.

Sunday, went to Vet's Stadium interviewed some nice people, and found some Capitol salesmen LPs and a few 45s, spent $30 this time, but worth it!!! Spent 2 hours in an impossible parking situation.

Coming out of my cataract fog.

Despite my natural nature, I tried to do a good thing today. Dave G had already told me that Ken B. had left KCLU as PM announcer to KCRW - better station, better gig, better pay (probably) and closer to home. Jim P. has a friend in the mtns, an announcer type who needs a gig - was at KVCR until they went right wing - and I suggested KCLU as Ken had just left the station. Jim will give him the info, maybe it'll pay off.

recovery in the O.C. and on the farm

Thursday, we went to the new farmer's mkt, then to O.C., Fullerton Museum to see the much touted History of O.C. R&R exhibit, got overcharged admission, $2 vs. $1...pitched a fit, we'll see how this turns out.

Friday, very windy, trees, fronds, branches all over the place, well, sorta.

Slow week, didn't do much, really. Worked all week on the Beachcomber story of SSI dependent woman who got her house sold out from under her and lost SSI, interviewed about a half dozen folks, we'll see who gets pissed off this time. Been back to the Y for just over a week, slowly increasing the weights, but the jacuzzi/sauna have been closed that entire time, which removes a bit of pleasure from the experience.

Sylvia spoke with Heather today, now she's set on traveling to Seattle in Aug. to visit her and Camilla while still an infant....before toddlerism.

Grand Prix weekend, not at race, but checked out the bluffs/Shore to see down the beach, what all looks like....couldn't see much. Went to see Deborah/Debbie show on Quincy, nice femms, Debbie took me for a walk on the RR rightoway to see the ugly mini-mansions, got some photos.
Beautiful day, guaranteed.

the eyes have it

Throughout the week, the fog lifted, and by Tues or Weds, my left eye was stronger than my right and I could see clearly without glasses....quite the new experience.

Weds, went to Herb Jacobs & got taxes done. Will owe some $$$, but not much...he's amazed how we live on on so little income. Speaking of Herb, where the hell is the other Herb, the other Louise? Vegas? Maybe. Working? Probably not. Even Lanie is beginning to speculate.

Thurs. evening, Brian spent the night and we watched Survivor and we did just that. He's stopping by about once weekly now.

Despite my worst fears, and some stupid eye rubbing, the eye exam on Friday caused me much relief...everything is fine. Chinese MD Wu took over for Rabin and I'm glad she did. Asked me if I tossed & turned, I answered "I just toss....no turning." She liked that.

That PM, Shea came by and she and Sylvia shopped, as per usual. Beachcomber came out and my Prach Ly and my LBCC with the Jane Fonda quote came out....pretty good.

Sat., did my show, cooked a chicken and returned to the gym for the first time since the surgery...doing less weight, more reps, good idea.

Sun, cooked ham bone & beans. Heather called, and we talked about, guess what? Herb & Louise, tho she gave us some sterling advice: before you look for them, remember, you might find them, then what? That's right. What would we do with them then?

So instead, we went to Los Cerritos House, ceremony with the Mayor, with Dave Grudt, had cake, coke & coffee, pretty fun day. My new nemesis, Randal Hernandez was there, always in the same blue shirt and chinos. Ducked him, then we returned home, which hadn't burned down because I TURNED OFF THE STOVE with the beans atop it.
