r&b comes to town (KLON #3)
Now I have my first show, and a few more under my belt. Next thing I know, I get a call from channel 4, not sure if it was from Furnell Chatman or from a producer. They'd like to do a story on my show...would I be interested? Sure, come on down. Chatman turned out to be a real nice guy, originally from New Orleans, who loved r&b...maybe it was he who discovered the show and pitched the station. He hung out long enough to ask me a few questions, I could tell he wanted to stick around, but he was told to go to another assignment.
That afternoon, a KNBC truck showed up and took some visuals of my collection and that was it: that night, a two or 3 minute piece on channel 4, probably the first press or TV coverage the new jazz KLON ever got. What I couldn't know was that Richard Berry was watching and told his friend Don Julian...and before the dust settled...there was more dust.
No more playlists, as the story develops. Next: leather coats & black Caddies. To be continued at "rnbmusic.blogspot.com"
