g'bye Christmas, hello 2006

Since I last blogged, my big jazz radio lawsuit story came out and, well, no hit men or women have been focusing on me as far as I can tell. Wagman did call, told me I hadn't insulted JJ enuff.

I went alone to the Beachcomber Christmas party at the Fish Tale, spoke with Marschall, Cindy, Kirt and a guy named Sean, ate shrimp, chicken, calimari and did my wine thing, with little in the way of consequences.

Marschall, in her special way, told me that with my white beard and attitude, I'd make a great Santa, earn lots of $$$. I told her I couldn't, "I'm a registered sex offender." Her jaw dropped past the table. Just kidding, Marschall, just kidding. Think I'll refine my humor. Liz and Jay gave out gifts, how nice...Beachcomber tee shirt to go along with my Rockitradio.net cap.

we had a full Christmas, full of drinking (Shea's concotions), hosted Brian, exchanged gifts and bought an 89 Volvo wagon for $2gs. Other than that, not much shaking (except the ice), tho we did talk with friends and Heather, who just closed on her 7-room house in HP, NJ near RU. OK? CULATER. Gotta grab some o' that Absolut while Sylv checks out her Van Gogh - vodkas, that is!!! And check out the parking sticker of the new car - Rutgers U!!

things get interesting

Last Tues., as the cleaning woman was doing her spic and span stuff, up jumped my new flat screen to replace the dying old soul of a too-heavy, squinty eyed monitor, and then, another flat screen, just in time for Sylvia, in time for Christmas. Merry Christmas.

After doing some heavy-duty research, the radio story has turned into much more...including a smoking gun that went off and resulted in the firing of good ol' JJ. Can't wait until Friday...it'll be better than the stolen autoette that no one else had. that was wonderful human interest, this new one'll be all about hubris to the max and max left the bldg. Hold on, this'll be a bumpy ride.

More radio stuff will result from this tory...and possibly a big change of who's running things...that would be the good result. More same ol' would be the worst.

Shea's been with us since Weds and counting. We're now going to Sylv's Red Hat even this week, the Beachcomber on Friday, Mike Stark's for New Year's Eve and Bernie's for New Year's Day. Busy holiday season.

Sylvia got bad news the other day: her mother has lymph cancer and at age 89, that's really bad. Not only that, but Herb & Lou surfaced back in Tehachapi, caring for, no less, the lucky Wanda. No more Poverty Hill for the wild bunch. Way things look right now are Brian & Shea for Christmas, likely not Ruth, Brian doesn't want to see Herb & Lou, so that's probably that, but you never knows, do you?

Did my WPMD Xmas show, went well, then I went home and watched Sat. football - one good game, one not so good. Today was one helluva game, Chargers beat the Colts, deservedly so, because they outplayed them down to their respective jocks.

Rick came over to light our pilot and per Sylv's imperative, stayed for dinner, which Shea later said she hated, but Sylv defended and it got pretty messy, so I watched football and left to do this when Whiny - I means, Desperate Housewives came on. Atlanta Falcons were the desperate housewives and this time, Steve Cropp didn't have to show up, which was good, because they'll be having a Seattle Xmas.

More soon.

Goodbye!

To go on record, I got word last night that one J.J., the GM of the local jazz outlet that once was the darling of the beleaguered jazz listener has taken a hike, done a sayonara, abandoned her post, bolted for the door, waived the yellow flag, in the middle of a doomed fund drive that had consumed two months and counting and had already brought in half of the goal. Was it the $$$? She ain't talking, but I'll be asking, thass fo'sure.

Don't let the door hit you.

out in the cold again

Pretty much have been suffering from a persistent cold/cough since the departure of Heather & Co., it's the standard result of their visiting. This timing has given me a chance to work on my most complicated book about L.A. r&b/r&r, but as usual, it's going much more slowly than I'd really like.

Oh, yes, the other nite, my monitor died...or is dying, as I can switch it off, then on, then it works for awhile, repeat previous procedure. I figured this one out all for myself, instead of switching out monitors, which would be a bigger pain. Time for a flat screen? Methinks.

Bernie Pearl called and invited us to a New Year's Day Jewish celebration, which we'll definitely attend. Other than that, sick, sick, sick, and inside as a result, tho I will be doing a WPMD tomorrow, unless, of course, it rains, as I am very delicate, am I.

Gary Wagner called, so I'll be doing two one hour blues shows for him.

Rockitradio sent me some nice chotskies, shirt, logo pen holder, etc., I should thank them

Thanksgiving and beyond

We definitely had one great Thanksgiving at Barb & Steve's, all 25 plus extant family members from California showed up, and we all got along great. We suspect that Heather's presence with her family made the difference. Brian took Shea home and we left at about 6.

Saturday, Heather & the gang wanted to go to the aquarium, but it was too expensive. That's when I started getting signs of a cold or flu - no surprise. I learned that on Sunday, we could get in free with 3 guests per, so Sylvia took them and got them in ... free.

During a session for Torben on what could be done to prevent an environmental disaster, Heather's hubby chimed in: "close down the U.S." Otherwise, things were perfect.

Monday, Sylvia got up at 4:30, got them to LAX on time, taking them to arrivals - or as Anders phrased it, "departures is just an elevator ride away." Off they went.

And I've spent the rest of the week with this exciting cold. Oh, well. Tonight, Shea is our guest for dinner and it looks like rain, in that order, of course.
